Meet Mr DIY

I am Gerry and Mr DIY, The Man Who Can, is my business.  It is a business I am passionate about, and have developed over many years of practical experience in home and garden improvement.

I come from a large family and grew up in the suburbs of London during the era when DIY was as popular as flared trousers. I showed an interest in how things work from a very early age and took every opportunity possible to learn practical skills from a wide range of professionals.  I took apart car engines and put them back together again, laboured with brickies, plasterers, electricians and plumbers and used carpentry skills to build everything from shelves and cupboards to garden sheds.  I worked for many years in a local business fixing all brands and sizes of garden maintenance equipment, taking apart engines, replacing worn parts and ensuring that everything from hedge trimmers to tractors could run smoothly again. It wasn’t long before I also discovered the joy of working outdoors using a full range of garden equipment, to trim, clear and tame nature.

Since those early days, I have worked on numerous projects such as remodelling and installing bathrooms, fitting kitchens, building garden structures, laying patios and decking, fitting and joining carpets, building household storage, flooring and insulating lofts, repairing white goods – I think you get the idea!  My own home too has benefitted from my expertise. Even on my days off, I still love to be busy.
